Le projet minier Cerro Blanco de la compagnie Goldcorp est située sur la frontière Guatemala/Salvador et est à fort risque de contaminer les eaux et les éco-systèmes dans les deux pays. À l'UQAM le 11 janvier, La conférencière Nely Rivera de Silva fera un témoignage. Alors qu'elle travaillait au Guatemala, ainsi que d'autres membres du CEICOM (une organisation qui fait de la recherche et de l'éducation sur les impacts des investissement miniers au Salvador), ils ont été séquestrés, volés et menacés de mort par des inconnus.
